Welcome to the
T-Shirt Revolution!
The T-Shirt Revolution was born out of our love for T-Shirts-
History of the T-Shirt
The conception of the American T-shirt began during WWI when American troops noticed European soldiers wearing a comfy cotton undergarment during hot & humid weather. Compared to the heavy wool uniforms our soldiers wore, these were a breath of fresh air!
By the 1920’s the word “T-Shirt” became an official word in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary. By the 1930’s both Hanes and Sears, Roebuck & Co., incorporated the latest fashion trend into their marketing campaigns. By WWII both the Navy and the Army had included the T-shirt as a standard issue undergarment.
In the 1950’s Hollywood catapulted this cool white undergarment when it was brought to the big screen by Marlon Brando, where his T-shirt was torn off of him exposing his naked chest in “A Street Car named Desire” (eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeghads!) Shant we forget 50’s idol, James Dean in “A Rebel without a Cause” – it was during this period that the T-Shirt would forever be………….Revolutionized.
In the 1960’s many advances in screen-printing gave people the opportunity to print on T-shirts. Tye-dying became a popular addition as well as, muscle shirts and tank tops. In the late 60’s & 70’s people began to realize that printing on T-shirts could be a very lucrative business. Rock and Roll bands and professional athletic teams saw the huge profit that could be made in selling these custom screen printed garments.
During the 80’s & 90’s the production of the T-Shirt and the mechanics of printing on them became more diverse and increased the volume and availability. Soon this cotton fiber was being called a “commodity” in the apparel industry.
By the new millennium the T-shirt had entered cyberspace and was about to become a billion dollar industry! New developments in DTG (direct to garment) printers had just entered the market- making it more competitive than ever.
